Design Idea #1 - Master Bedroom Sketch

Sketch/Design by:  Jordan Jones

This is a sketch from the master bedroom on the second floor looking North toward the Kootenay Lake.  On the left is a private master deck with a view of the lake to the North as well as sun from the South.  Half of the far wall is open to below (living room) allowing a larger view of the lake from the master suite.

Design Idea #1 - North Elevation

Sketch/Design by:  Jordan Jones

As Kaslo is a historical town it is important the architectural style incorporates inspiration from heritage buildings.  When final designs are completed I will have a poll open to the public (residents of Kaslo) in which votes can be cast for the design which they feel best suits Kaslo.  In the interim if anyone has any comments or suggestions referring to this design sketch that would be extremely helpful!

Thesis Question

When considering financial, functional, and aesthetic aspects would it be better to upgrade existing houses or demolish them and rebuild?

Research Proposal

Hello everyone!

I would like to welcome you to my blog.  As most of you will already know my name is Jordan Jones.  Through the Architectural and Engineering Technology program at Thompson Rivers University I have been given an opportunity to research a topic of my choice.  I have chosen two homes on adjacent lots located in Kaslo BC.  These homes are in desperate need of either renovation or demolition.  Throughout my research I will be considering these options and deciding which idea will work best.  I am looking forward to using this blog in order to share the knowledge I gain with others.  Ideally this blog will give me feedback on which designs are preferred and also give me an opportunity to receive suggestion from others regarding renovations vs. demolition.
